‘Chukkas’, ‘handsticks’, ‘riding off’, ‘hooking’… all words you'll be completely familiar with after a day spent learning to play Polo! Learning this exciting sport with fully qualified instructors will have you delving into sporting history spanning over 2,500 years. You’ll learn tactics, rules and basic control of your pony in this introduction to the game – and you’ll be swinging your stick with the best of them by the end of the day, even if you’ve never sat on a pony before!

What happens on the day
As everyone arrives for the experience you'll have a chance to get a tea or coffee and meet your coach for the day. You’ll then be given a full briefing by your coach and you will be divided into groups depending on your level of ability. You’ll also have a chance to ask questions about the game and to calm any nerves you may have! You’ll be taken through some light warm-up exercises before your lesson starts, either on a wooden pony, for complete beginners, or straight onto a polo pony. By the end of the morning, all participants will be outside on a polo pony, practising holding the stick whilst controlling where you ride! After your sit down lunch it’s back in the saddle for some more practice on the different shots needed in the game. Riding off and hooking will be some of the techniques covered. You and your fellow participants will then cover some basic rules and tactics in order to proceed to playing in a game, followed by a small tournament and prize giving for the triumphant side!
